Wolf Rock and Crow Creek Valley Overlook (yet again); Superior Hiking Trail: September 30, 2012

Even though we'd hiked 4.8 miles steep and rocky miles yesterday - two more than planned - we were still determined to visit the Crow Creek Valley Overlook this weekend.  I'd visited it twice already this year: once with Joe and Thunderdog in March, and once with just Thunderdog in June.  I had a picture of the valley from spring and from summer...I just need a fall and winter picture to have a nice little set.  With 75%-100% fall color and beautiful weather predicted, we ignored our grumbling muscles and got back out on the trail.

Y'all won't believe what happened.

Are you sure we're going the right way??

That's right.  We went the wrong way.  Again.  This time we didn't go more than five minutes before we realized that we were obviously on the wrong path.  This doesn't happen to us often, folks.  Perhaps Mercury was in retrograde, or our internal compasses were out of alignment.  We turned around and found the proper path.  Again.

Here's some of Joe's pictures.  Enjoy!  Be sure to scroll to the bottom for three very important (and mediocre) pictures from me.

Ore boat, golden quaking aspen, mixed forest

Thunderdog has had NO problem with all the extra walks.

Fog over the lake - when we first started our hike, it was overcast.
By the time we reached the overlook, this was all that was left of the cloud cover.

Oh! Minnesota!

As promised: Crow Creek Valley Overlook through the seasons.  Joe and I are a bit apprehensive about navigating our way up there in the winter, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

  1. It is amazing the way our world changes (and in many ways stays the same) over the course of a year. Awesome!
