Lester Park Ski Trail: May 2, 2012

It's not always sunshine and roses on the hiking front.  Sometimes things just don't work out the way you want.  Today was kind of a flop due to one puppy's VERY BAD MOOD.

Thunderdog needed to get a shot (just a Lyme Disease booster), so we were off to Duluth this afternoon.  The vet said that she wouldn't have any side effects from the shot, so I thought that it would be nice to go for a nice little walk afterwards - on Lester Park's ski trail.  It was a beautiful day: temps in the 70's, nice breeze, and the ground was drying out.  Everything was perfect...except that Thunderdog could not seem to forgive me for taking her to see the vet.

She wallowed in mud puddles.  She yanked around on her leash.  She barked and growled at other dogs.  She tried to eat every piece of scat that she came across.  She chowed down on grass and made herself puke.  Her ears were constantly pressed back against her head in the "mean dog/cranky dog" position.  She had the look of a demon dog and the attitude of a pissed off teenager.

We did a 3-mile loop and I was DONE afterward.  It would have been a great walk if she'd been less of a pill.  There was a very nice waterfall and she brattily refused to even look at it for a picture.

"This hike sucks.  You made me get a shot.  The waterfall is boring.  You're boring.  I hate nature."
*sigh*

We'll try again this weekend.
